Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
GermanyTalent is operated by Marvin Wasmuth (contact: hello@germanytalent.com). We are not a law firm and not a recruitment agency. The site provides general visa information, an IT job board for skilled workers interested in working in Germany, and an opt-in service that introduces candidate profiles to German employers and recruiters.
2. What data we collect
Analytics (Plausible)
We use Plausible Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Plausible is privacy-first: it collects no personal data, sets no cookies, and is fully GDPR-compliant without requiring a cookie banner. No IP addresses or device fingerprints are stored. The data we see is aggregate-only (page views, referrers, country).
Eligibility wizard (optional email)
If you complete the visa eligibility wizard and choose to enter your email address to receive a personalised document checklist, that email is stored in Airtable (a US-based cloud service). Providing your email is entirely optional. You can see your eligibility result without it. We use that email to send the checklist you requested and, if you later create a GermanyTalent account, to attach the saved eligibility result to your account.
Account (email + password)
If you create a GermanyTalent account, we store your email, a hashed password (bcrypt; we never see your password in plain text), and your sign-in history. We also send email-verification, password-reset, and account-related service messages to that address.
Candidate profile (Talent Pool)
If you build a candidate profile, we store the fields you provide: name, role, seniority, years of experience, tech stack, German and English level, current country and city, target salary, LinkedIn URL, and (optionally) an uploaded CV. This data is held privately on our infrastructure and is never shared with employers or recruiters without your explicit, separately-recorded consent (a checkbox at profile submit). You can update or delete your profile from your dashboard at any time.
Saved jobs
If you save a job from the job board, we store the job reference number, title, company, city, and the date you saved it, linked to your account. This is visible only to you on your dashboard.
Job listings
Job listings are fetched from the official Bundesagentur fรผr Arbeit (BA) Jobbรถrse API and displayed on the site. Clicking a listing may take you to an external site operated by the employer or BA. We have no control over data practices on those sites.
3. Cookies
GermanyTalent uses essential cookies only: a sign-in session cookie set by our authentication system after you log in. We do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies. Plausible Analytics operates without cookies. No cookie consent banner is required.
4. Sharing your profile with employers
Sharing your candidate profile with German employers and recruiters happens only after you tick an explicit consent checkbox. Your profile is held privately until then. You can withdraw this consent at any time by emailing hello@germanytalent.com or by deleting your profile from your dashboard. Withdrawal stops future introductions; it does not unwind introductions already made (those employers received your profile in good faith under your consent at the time).
We do not sell your data. Employers and recruiters are introduced to you on a per-match basis, not by bulk export.
5. Service emails vs marketing emails
Service emails are tied to your account or to an action you took: the eligibility checklist you requested, the email-verification link, password-reset links, and notifications about employer introductions. We send these on the basis of contract performance (Art 6(1)(b) GDPR) or legitimate interest in keeping you informed about your own account (Art 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Marketing emails (product updates, new visa types, occasional tips) are sent only if you opt in by ticking the marketing-consent checkbox at signup. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in any such email or by emailing hello@germanytalent.com. Unsubscribing from marketing does not affect service emails.
6. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
- Consent (Art 6(1)(a)): wizard email checklist, sharing your profile with employers, marketing emails.
- Contract (Art 6(1)(b)): account creation, candidate-profile storage, saved jobs, service emails.
- Legitimate interest (Art 6(1)(f)): password hashing and account security, account-related service notifications, fraud and abuse prevention.
Where the legal basis is consent, you may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
7. Data retention
- Wizard checklist emails (Airtable): up to 12 months, or until you request deletion.
- Account data (email, hashed password): for as long as the account exists. We delete the account and associated data within 30 days of a deletion request.
- Candidate profile: for as long as the profile exists. Deleted within 30 days of profile deletion or account deletion.
- Saved jobs: for as long as your account exists.
- Plausible Analytics: aggregate and non-personal; no individual records are stored.
