Chancenkarte Germany: Pakistani Applicants 2026
Germany’s job-search visa for Pakistani IT professionals. Move without a job offer, search for up to 12 months, and convert to a Blue Card or work permit once you have an offer. Requires a recognised 4-year degree and a Sperrkonto of €13,092.
Pakistan-specific:Germany formally objected to Pakistan’s Hague Apostille accession on 24 October 2022. Do not add a Pakistani apostille to documents for Germany. Authentication chain: HEC attestation, then MOFA attestation. APS is required only for student visas, not for the Chancenkarte.

Points example: typical Pakistani software engineer
Here is a worked example for Ali, a 26-year-old software engineer from Rawalpindi with a Bachelor of Software Engineering from NUST (H+ rating in anabin, programme listed as “entspricht einem deutschen Hochschulabschluss”), 3 years of post-graduation experience, and an IELTS score of 7.5 (C1):
| Criterion | Points |
|---|---|
| Shortage occupation: software engineering (ISCO-08 group 25) | 1 |
| 2+ years qualifying post-graduation experience (in last 5 years) | 2 |
| English at C1 (IELTS 7.5, certificate) | 1 |
| Age under 35 at date of application | 2 |
| Total | 6 ✓ |
Ali also qualifies for Route 1 because NUST is H+ and “Bachelor of Software Engineering” is the exact programme listed in anabin as “entspricht.” Note: anabin lists the programme by its exact name. “B.Sc. Computer Science” from NUST is a different programme entry. Check anabin for your specific programme title before selecting a route.

German missions in Pakistan
| Mission | Jurisdiction |
|---|---|
| Embassy Islamabad | Punjab (ex-Lahore/Sargodha), KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, ICT |
| Consulate General Karachi | Sindh · Balochistan |
| Honorary Consul Lahore | Lahore and Sargodha districts only — does NOT issue visas |
Apply at the mission covering your registered home address in Pakistan. Lahore residents apply at Embassy Islamabad, not the Honorary Consul (who cannot issue visas). Both visa-issuing missions accept applications via digital.diplo.de.
Common mistakes for Pakistani applicants
- Adding a Pakistani apostille.Germany formally objected to Pakistan’s Hague Convention accession on 24 October 2022. Pakistani apostille stamps are not valid for German missions. The correct chain is HEC attestation followed by MOFA attestation. Apostille fees are wasted.
- Including APS in the application. The Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) certificate is required for student visa applications only. Including it in a Chancenkarte or Blue Card application adds no value and can cause confusion.
- Checking anabin by university name only, not by programme.NUST is listed as H+ in anabin, but only specific programme names are listed as “entspricht.” “Bachelor of Software Engineering” is listed; “B.Sc. Computer Science” is a different entry. Match your exact degree title to the anabin entry.
- Underestimating the Urkundenüberprüfung timeline.Embassy Islamabad’s published guidance (28 January 2026) states that document verification takes a minimum of 12 months. This is separate from the standard processing time. Apply well in advance.
- Forgetting the return ticket reserve. Embassy Islamabad requires evidence of €500 reserved for a return ticket, in addition to the Sperrkonto. This is not standard at all German missions, but Islamabad enforces it.
When you need a lawyer
Most well-documented Pakistani Chancenkarte applications do not require a lawyer. Consider one if:
- You have exactly 6 points and the degree equivalence or experience period is borderline
- Your degree is from a university not yet listed in anabin for your specific programme title
- Your application is in the Urkundenüberprüfung queue and you need to understand status options
- You are already in Germany and want to convert your current permit to a Chancenkarte

Frequently asked questions
Do Pakistani applicants need apostille for the Chancenkarte?
No. Germany formally objected to Pakistan's accession to the Hague Apostille Convention on 24 October 2022. Pakistani apostille stamps are not valid for Germany. The correct authentication chain is: HEC attestation, then MOFA attestation. Do not pay for apostille on documents intended for German missions.
Is APS required for the Pakistani Chancenkarte application?
No. The Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) certificate is required only for Pakistani student visa applications, not for the Chancenkarte or EU Blue Card. Do not include it in your Chancenkarte application.
How long does degree verification take for Pakistani applicants?
German missions in Pakistan may refer degree documents to the Urkundenüberprüfung (document verification) process. Per Embassy Islamabad's guidance of 28 January 2026, this process takes a minimum of 12 months. Factor this into your timeline. Applicants with degrees already verified at a prior mission may not need to repeat the process.
What is the Sperrkonto amount for Pakistani applicants?
The Sperrkonto (blocked account) must hold at least €13,092, which is €1,091 per month for 12 months (2026 figure under § 20a(4) AufenthG). Embassy Islamabad also requires a €500 reserve for a return ticket. Providers used by Pakistani applicants include Fintiba, Coracle, and Expatrio.
Which German mission handles Pakistani Chancenkarte applications?
Embassy Islamabad covers Punjab (excluding Lahore for consular matters), KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Islamabad Capital Territory. The Consulate General in Karachi handles Sindh and Balochistan. The Honorary Consul in Lahore covers Lahore and Sargodha districts but does not issue visas.
