Do you qualify?
The Chancenkarte lets you move to Germany without a job offer and search for ML and AI engineering roles for up to 12 months. To apply, you need a qualifying higher-education degree of at least 3 years. A 4-year B.Sc. CS, B.Sc. Mathematics, or B.Sc. Statistics from a Pakistani university meets the requirement.
Route 1 applies if your degree is fully recognised in anabin. Route 2 if it is not: you need at least 6 points.

Quantitative degrees (Mathematics, Statistics) can qualify for Route 1 if the institution is H+ and the specific programme is listed as "entspricht" in anabin. If not listed, Route 2 still works with enough points.

Profile A: 4-year B.Sc. CS (programme unlisted), 2 years ML engineering, age 26, IELTS 7.5 (C1): 1 (shortage) + 2 (experience) + 2 (age under 35) + 1 (English C1) = 6 points ✓
Profile B: 4-year B.Sc. Mathematics (ZAB partial equivalence), 3 years ML experience, age 28, German A2: 4 (partial equiv) + 1 (shortage) + 2 (experience) + 2 (age under 35) + 1 (German A2) = 10 points ✓
Financial requirement
€13,092 in a Sperrkonto before your visa appointment (§ 20a(4) AufenthG). The figure German missions apply in 2025-2026 is €1,091/month. Verify the current amount with your mission before opening an account. Budget an additional €500 for the return ticket reserve. Providers: Fintiba, Coracle, Expatrio.

- Part-time employment: up to 20 hours per week on average
- Trial employment (Probebeschäftigung): up to 2 weeks per employer
- Freelancing: not permitted
Worked example: Nida's Chancenkarte application
Nida Hussain, 25, ML engineer, Karachi to Germany
Nida holds a 4-year B.Sc. Computer Science from IBA Karachi (2022). She checks IBA in anabin and confirms her programme is listed as "entspricht einem deutschen Hochschulabschluss." Route 1 applies.
HEC attests her degree and transcript; MOFA attests on top. No apostille: Germany formally objected to Pakistan's Hague accession on 24 October 2022. Her registered address is in Karachi, Sindh, so she applies to Consulate General Karachi.
She opens a Sperrkonto with Coracle (€13,092) and includes €500 for the return ticket reserve. Visa fee: €75 in PKR at the consulate exchange rate.
After arriving in Munich, she joins a 12-week part-time AI residency programme (under 20 hours per week) while interviewing. Converts to a Blue Card at a Munich health-tech company two months later.

Common mistakes
Adding a Pakistani apostille. No legal effect. Use HEC and MOFA attestation.
Applying to the wrong mission. Punjab, KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, and ICT: Embassy Islamabad. Sindh and Balochistan: Consulate General Karachi.
Counting academic research alone as qualifying experience. For the points table, experience should demonstrate production ML engineering, not just publications. Research with deployed production output qualifies; pure publication records without deployment do not.
Paying for APS. APS is for student visas only.
