Do you qualify?

The Chancenkarte lets you move to Germany without a job offer and search for cloud engineering roles for up to 12 months. To apply, you need a qualifying higher-education degree of at least 3 years. A 4-year B.Sc. CS or B.Eng. from a Pakistani university meets the requirement.

Cloud certifications (AWS, GCP, Azure) are supporting documents, not the qualifying credential. You need a degree or enough points from the table.

Route 1 applies if your degree is fully recognised in anabin. Route 2 if not: you need at least 6 points.

Which route applies to you?

Financial requirement

€13,092 in a Sperrkonto before your visa appointment (§ 20a(4) AufenthG). The figure German missions apply in 2025-2026 is €1,091/month. Verify the current amount with your mission before opening an account. Budget €500 for the return ticket reserve.

Worked example: Zara's Chancenkarte application

Zara Tariq, 26, cloud engineer, Islamabad to Germany

Zara holds a 4-year B.Sc. Software Engineering from NUST Islamabad (2021). She checks NUST in anabin and confirms her programme is listed as "entspricht." Route 1.

HEC attests her degree and transcript; MOFA attests on top. No apostille: Germany formally objected to Pakistan's Hague accession on 24 October 2022. Her registered address is in Islamabad (ICT), so she applies to Embassy Islamabad.

Three years post-graduation at a Rawalpindi-based fintech: AWS (EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch), Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes. AWS Solutions Architect Associate certified. She opens a Sperrkonto with Fintiba (€13,092) and budgets €500 for the return ticket reserve.

After arriving in Frankfurt, she works 16 hours per week as a part-time cloud consultant while interviewing at German banks and enterprise software companies. Converts to a Blue Card at a Frankfurt bank four months later.

Which German mission handles your application

MissionJurisdictionVisa applications
Embassy IslamabadICT, Punjab, KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJKYes, via CSP portal (digital.diplo.de)
Consulate General KarachiSindh, BalochistanYes, via CSP portal
Honorary Consul LahoreLahore and SargodhaNo visas. Certified document copies only.

Common mistakes

Treating cloud certifications as the qualifying credential. AWS, GCP, and Azure certifications are supporting documents, not recognised academic qualifications. You still need a degree or enough points.

Adding a Pakistani apostille. No legal effect. Use HEC and MOFA attestation.

Applying to the wrong mission. Punjab, KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, and ICT: Embassy Islamabad. Sindh and Balochistan: Consulate General Karachi.

Paying for APS. APS is for student visas only.
